Importance of Signing for Early Years Children
Children develop cognitive thinking before speech - they know what they want but cannot articulate it in words. This can lead to behavioural problems and frustration as some speech and language difficulties can lead children unable to communicate verbally.
Sign Language can be used by children as a tool to convey what they want to say. This gives all children a voice to communicate their needs and interest with others.
At Little Mandarin Classes, we chose to combine British Sign Language with the Mandarin Vocabulary to help children assimilate the new words faster. Add role-play to the mix and you get brilliant set of tools for children to express themselves both verbally and non-verbally.
Benefits of signing:
- It reduces frustration
- It enhances self-esteem
- Improves communication skills
- Supports language development
